Wells, YMCA day centre, offices, and cafeteria

This was a community project designed in association with the Mendip YMCA and local schools, notably the Wells Blue Community School, to provide a meeting place for young people and offices for the YMCA.

The building is fully accessible for people with physical and sensory disabilities, and includes interview rooms for persons seeking emergency accommodation. The site was a former glassworks, hence the name of the building "The Old Glasshouse". The spiral stair was deliberately placed at the front to stimulate communication between floors and create a busy "front of house".

The building won the 1998 RIBA Regional award for Design in the Countryside, Country Town category.
